This is a municipal park. It has a new shower building. It also has what appears to be new playground equipment for young children. There are 2 sections for camping: the main and the "back 40". The main section has the older big trees and the "back 40" has younger trees. We were here on a Sunday night, and we were the only ones here. The site layout has the sites next to each other with two sites sharing a water spigot. Most of the sites are grass, but a few are gravel. The area outside the campground (the north end) used to be an old gravel pit (according to the sign) and there are many ponds and streams. There is a stream crossing if you dare to take your vehicle across. We were here after some major storms, and the stream was running pretty quickly and was high. You can also primitive camp in the north end along the ponds and streams. Overall this is a very pretty city park with lots of grass and just enough trees to provide shade. There is a paved path that runs to town (about 1/2 mile). The town of Ackley has an old fashioned soda fountain which was unfortunately closed when we were here. We enjoyed our stay here and would come back for an overnight. I suspect on the weekends they are quite full.

Morrison-Rockwood is first-come, first-serve state park; they do not take reservations. It is very woodsy with trees/shrubs between ample sized campsites, although sites 56-64 are more "park like" and in the open. There are a couple pull-through sites and some 50 Amps spread throughout the campground. They have a nice, small lake for boating (limit on engine size), but no swimming available. There is electric at every site. There is one shower house for the whole campground but sufficient outhouses throughout the campground. The playground for children is located at the end of one of the loops (with the "park-like" setting). There are 3 camp hosts at the park and they are in the process of cracking down on violators, so the park is very quiet even when full.

We drove through this campground. We are fans of the the COE campgrounds and were very disappointed with this one. So disappointed we didn't stay. Most COE campgrounds have either gravel and cement pads -- this campground had neither --you park on the grass. The ground did not appear level in most places and would require some leveling. I also agree that we took the "direct" route to this campground from Galena and that in itself was an adventure. The other road leading to Hanover was several miles (5-6 miles) of gravel -- not too happy with that either.

This is a typical KOA. The sites are adequate in size, and not back-to-back. At least your slide isn't touching your neighbor's slide or his awning like some KOA's. The campground is small in size and they seem to pack them in pretty tightly; especially the tenting area. I've never seen so many tents crunched together. The roads were pretty dusty and we had to keep our windows closed from the passing vehicles. The campground is about a quarter mile from a bike trail and within walking distance of town. We probably would not stay there again if in the area.

This is the typical KOA -- very crowded and tight, back-to-back sites. The first site they tried to put us in was 50 amps, and they moved us when they found out we only needed 30 amps. ("50 amp sites are a premium.") The next site they moved us to lasted about 5 minutes. They then told us that site was reserved for a month and we had to move. (They did apologize for making us move.) The 3rd site they put us in was back-to-back with another camper and the only way we could get our trailer in and slide open was to park on the grass. We told them that wouldn't work as at that point we were near the camper in front of us. We eventually got our money back and moved on down the road.

This is a very nice KOA. According to the owners they have had this KOA for 30 years. There are many full grown trees and a lot of shade. This KOA is about 1 mile off the expressway, but the noise doesn't seem to travel. What you do hear is the crowing of the roosters that the owners have. Lots of chickens running around in the back of the full-service area. The owners also have horses. This campground also has hand-dipped ice cream in about 6-8 flavors which are EXCELLENT! This is one KOA I would definitely stay at again when in the area.

This is one of the better KOA's. In an area of high desert, this is a green oasis. The owners work very hard to maintain the grass and flowers on their site. The surrounding terrain is dry, sagebrush, and brown. We were there during the week and the campground was not full. The owners placed the campers in every other camp spot so there was quite a bit of room between you and your neighbors. Even if full, the sites looked quite wide and were not back-to-back. Everything at the campground was clean and neat. They have a snackbar and the ice cream cones were quite substantial. The campground is about 1 mile off the interstate but very little road noise transferred to the campground. We will definitely go back when in the area.

This is one of the great Idaho State Parks. The campground is on two levels. There is a lower level near the Snake River (but not on the river); and there is the upper level. There are campsites on both levels that give awesome views of the river, birds, etc. Definitely try to aim for one of these campsites -- the views are outstanding!!! Only water and electric are available, but there is a dump station. On Friday and Saturday nights (during the summer) they have a ranger program. One of the ranger programs while we were there was dutch-oven cooking and we got to sample both the cherry and peach cobblers. Wonderful!!! Not far from the campground is a trail leading to wagon train ruts from the Oregon Trail.
